Lodz University of Technology (TUL) is one of the best technical universities in Poland. It has an 80-year tradition and extensive experience in educating engineers. Over one hundred thousand well-educated graduates are the fruit of the work of several generations of professional staff: teaching, research and technical staff, as well as efficient administrative support.

We are a dynamic technical university with a well-developed structure, providing education to over 11,000 students and employing approximately 2,700 staff. Teaching is delivered at nine faculties:

    • Faculty of Electrical, Electronic, Computer and Control Engineering
    • Faculty of Chemistry
    • Faculty of Material Technologies and Textile Design
    • Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Sciences
    • Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Environmental Engineering
    • Faculty of Technical Physics, Information Technology and Applied Mathematics
    • Faculty of Organization and Management
    • Faculty of Process and Environmental Engineering

In addition, there are numerous other organizational units on the campus that provide interdisciplinary education, sports and recreation activities, and entertainment. They also host a variety of organizations supporting student life.

In the 2024 national ranking of Higher Education Institutions by the educational magazine "Perspektywy," Lodz University of Technology was ranked 5th among technical universities and 8th among public universities in Poland. According to the Ministry of Education and Science, we are also among the most popular universities among new recruits.

Last year, our university was classified in the most prestigious international rankings. We are one of 40 Polish universities ranked in the Times Higher Education World University Ranking and among 22 Polish universities featured in the QS World University Ranking.

This year, Lodz University of Technology has been included in five subject-specific categories in the THE World University Rankings: Business and Economics, Computer Sciences, Physical Sciences, Engineering, and Life Sciences. It has also been featured in three QS subject-specific rankings: Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing Engineering; Materials Science; and Chemistry.

In the THE Impact Ranking, which measures universities’ engagement in achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, Lodz University of Technology was included among 25 Polish universities. For the first time, it was recognized for its activities towards Goal 5: Gender Equality, where it ranked in the 301–400 range. It also received the highest rating for its actions related to Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, entering the global TOP 200 and securing the first position in Poland. In Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals, the university was ranked in the 401–600 range (4th place in Poland). Lodz University of Technology also participated in Goal 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure (ranked 301–400 globally and 3rd in Poland), Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities, and Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being.

Additionally, Lodz University of Technology was once again included in the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability, placing in the 1041–1060 range worldwide and 396th in Europe. The QS WUR: Sustainability ranking measures how well higher education institutions address the world’s biggest environmental, social, and governance (ESG) challenges.

Lodz University of Technology received, as the first technical university in Poland, the HR EXCELLENCE IN RESEARCH logo. Having this distinction increases the visibility and appeal of the university as a project partner in the European research area. In 2022, the University applied for an extension of the right to use this distinction and received positive feedback.

The high standard of education provided by Lodz University of Technology ensures that our students receive a high-quality degree that is recognized by both Polish and international employers. To keep pace with the changing needs of the job market, the university continues to refine its teaching and learning. We use modern methods and techniques such as case teaching, problem-based learning and flipped education. We have created creative learning spaces—so-called active learning studios—where we foster curiosity, independent learning and practical action. Education at TUL is deeply rooted in day-to-day issues and challenges faced by local authorities and business partners. We offer traineeship opportunities in Poland and abroad, study visits, open days for companies, as well as lectures and classes conducted by future employers. We want students of all faculties to have a clear idea from the start about their future career prospects. We also focus on developing soft skills: communication, creativity, initiative, flexibility, teamwork and time management.

Our educational offer is becoming increasingly rich every year, which is the result of our intensive cooperation with industry. In response to the growing demand for highly qualified specialists, TUL offers 69 degree programmes (across 12 disciplines) with minors tailored to the specific needs of the job market and encompassing the latest advances in science.

Since the 2019/2020 academic year, doctoral education has been conducted at the newly established Interdisciplinary Doctoral School. We offer candidates 12 educational pathways, a flexible and innovative English-language curriculum, lectures by visiting professors, mobility opportunities, and participation in summer schools and research projects. All doctoral students receive a doctoral scholarship.
