Faculty of Process and Environmental Engineering
The Faculty of Process and EnvironmentalEngineering, known in Poland as a strong research center with major achievements in research and teaching, is one of the youngest faculties of the Lodz University of Technology.
It was founded as the Institute of Chemical Engineering with the rights of the faculty on September 1, 1970. It was created by the merger of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering of the Food Chemistry Department and the Department of Chemical Industry Equipment of the Mechanical Department. The recruitment of candidates for the first year of studies began with the creation of the Institute. The Institute was transformed into the Faculty of Faculty of Process and Environmental Engineeringin 1992 and operates under that name today.
The Faculty of Process and Environmental Engineeringis one of the unique technical departments in Poland. It has the highestcategory in the classification of research institutions of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education in Poland. It has the right to grant doctoral and postdoctoral degrees in two fields: environmental engineering and chemical engineering.
The faculty offers education at three levels: first-cycle studies (3,5 to 4 years) leading to the professional title of a inżynier(Engineer), second-cycle studies - Master's degree programme(1.5 to 2 years) and third-cycle studies - Doctoral degree programmes(normally 3 to 4 years). The ambition of the faculty is to educate versatile engineers, equipped with the basics of knowledge and skills of many engineering disciplines. A broad interdisciplinary education and specific engineering skills coupled with the acquired social competences mean that our graduates are in demand in the labor market, they can quickly adapt to new conditions as well as use and implement new technologies. All training programmes take into account the best international practices and opinions of graduates and employers, which ensures obtaining the qualifications sought in the labor market.
The faculty offers four areas of study:
· Biochemical Engineering (first cycle, full-time studies)
· Process Engineering (first and second cycle studies, full-time studies)
· Environmental Engineering (first and second cycle studies, full-time and part-time studies)
· Safety Engineering (first cycle studies, full-time and part-time studies)
The faculty also conducts studies of the third degree (PhD) lasting four years in full-time on the:
· Chemical Engineering in Environmental Protection.
Doctoral programme prepares students to obtain a doctoral degree in the field of environmental engineering or chemical engineering.
In addition, the Faculty offers the following postgraduate courses:
· Safety and Occupational Health
· Safety of Industrial Processes
· Management of Municipal Waste
The teaching staff of the faculty comprises 75 people, including 29 holders of the title of professor or D. Sc. degree. Currently (May 2013) there are about 750 students studying full-time and 200 part-time students at the faculty.
All study programmes conducted at the faculty are a priority for the needs of the labor market and the competitiveness of the economy. Studies in Environmental Engineering were selected by the Ministry as commissioned technical studies. The support for the project "Environmental engineering- investment in the future" was addressed to students who started their studies in the academic year 2011/2012.
In November 2012, The Faculty of Process and Environmental Engineeringwas one of the awarded units by the Ministry of Science and Higher Educationas the faculty pursuing education at the highest level. Thefield of study: OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY ENGINEERING was awarded in a "contest for a million" as one of the best studyprogrammes which adaptseducation to the needs of the labor market. The faculty also has a positive assessment of the quality of Polish Accreditation Committee for the Chemical and Process Engineering (now the Process Engineering), and Environmental Engineering.
In addition to mandatory courses, the faculty offers a number of opportunities for supplementary knowledge. There are very active scientific student associations: OKTAN, SUCCESS and Moliere. By participating in their work, it is possible to carry out own projects, to organize scientific conferences and student integration parties. For many years the Baltic University Centre in Poland has been very activelycoordinating more than 200 universities from 14 countries of the Baltic Sea region. The Baltic University Program focuses on the issues of sustainable development in the Baltic Sea Region and offers its members participation in seminars, conferences, summer camps, and cruises on the Mazurian Lake District and the Baltic Sea.
