  3. Specific admission requirements

    The admission of candidates for full-time and part-time studies first cycle programmes happen after the admission procedure based on the results of egzamin maturalny or egzamin dojrzałości from the subject which are obligatory in the process of qualification for a given degree programmes. For some degree programmes additional test of predispositions are required. In all the stages of the admission procedure full time and part time first cycle programmes the following rules are applied: Candidates for all the faculties and fields of studies (apart from the degree programmes in foreign languages, studies at the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Sciences, the degree programme: architecture and urban planning, design studies, environmental protection, mathematics, European studies, management (leading to licencjat degree), biomedical engineering) will be admitted on the basis of the results from: · mathematics, · foreign language, · physics or chemistry- to be chosen. When a candidate did not take an examination in the aforementioned subjects it does not exclude the candidate from the admission procedure but the number of points from that subject equals zero. The admission of candidates for full-time and part-time first cycle programmes on the basis of results of International Baccalaureate (IB) will be based on the number of points obtained in the following way: The number of points= n x 25 N= total number of points indicated on the IB diploma

  4. Specific arrangements for recognition of prior learning (formal, non-formal and informal)

    According to the Polish law of 2007, it is possible to recognize some of the courses included in a study programme on the basis of the qualifications obtained outside a higher education institution. Particularly: - A student who documented professional experience or has run own business consistent with a programme of a training included in the study program, can have such a training recognized, - A student who possesses a certificate of the knowledge of a foreign language on the level defined in the educational standards for a given field of study and a level of education can be exempt from a duty to participate in such courses, - A student who possesses European Computer Driving License can be exempt from a duty to participate in information technology courses. Below the forms of activities not included in a study programmes for which ECTS points can be awarded are enumerated: - Participation in the activities of scientific circles, - Participation in a research project, - Participation in a project conducted for the needs of industry, - Professional work, - Vocational qualifications confirmed by certificates, - Participation in lectures/ seminars conducted by the representatives of companies - Placement abroad, - Sport achievement.

    In order to obtain a diploma of the first cycle leading to inżynier degree it is necessary to: - Obtain no less than 210/240 ECTS points, - Achieve the learning outcomes for a given field of study which are in line with the learning outcomes for a given field/ fields of education according to the Regulation of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. - Achieve learning outcomes leading to inżynier qualification according to a proper Regulation of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

  8. Occupational profiles of graduates with examples

    The graduates of the first cycle studies of the Nanotechnology department will possess professional skills necessary to: - work in laboratories specializing in nanomaterials synthesis development, - operate laboratory apparatus and equipment, - investigate basic properties of this type of materials, - define usefulness of nanomaterials for specific practical purposes, - supervise technological processes carried out in chemical industry connected with nanotechnology, - develop methods of synthesis of new nanomaterials, - read information and prepare new documents using engineering graphic software, - make calculations in everyday engineering practice, - search for information in the field of nanotechnology and related areas. Additionally the graduate of the Nanotechnology course possesses general competencies which allow him/her to: - work in teams and task groups, - solve simple engineering problems in the field of nanotechnology, - produce brief oral reports on issues connected with nanotechnology, - organize work at his/her workplace (e.g. research laboratory or industrial enterptise department), - follow occupational safety requirements, - use specialist Polish and English, - make use of modern means of communication. The graduates of the Nanotechnology course may be employed as engineers, designers or process engineers in industry connected with nanotechnology or/and chemical industry, plastic materials industry or as workers of academic or industrial research laboratories at home or abroad.

  11. Examination regulations, assessment and grading

    While carrying out the exams at the Lodz University of Technology, the following procedure applies:
    1. The examination is conducted by the course coordinator or another authorized academic teacher. The examiner can indicate other persons from among the academic teachers and other staff to assist her/him during the examination procedures.
    2. The form of, and the requirements for the examination are specified and made public at the beginning of the term.
    3. The examination tasks must be written down on the blackboard, or handed in to students in a written form.
    4. The duration of the examination is written on the blackboard. In justified cases, the examiner may allow some extra time in excess of the scheduled duration.
    5. The examiner indicates the date of announcement of the examination results. The results shall be announced no later than 7 days from the examination date.
    6. Lateness exceeding 15 minutes is regarded as an unjustified absence from the examination.
    7. Mobile phones must be turned off during the examination.
    8. The examiner determines the possibility to use specific materials and aids during the examination.
    9. The students sitting for the examination are not allowed to leave the examination room. Under exceptional circumstances a student may, with the examiner’s consent, leave the examination room, however, the examination paper has to be deposited with the examiner during that time.
    10. In the event of non-self-reliant work on the assigned tasks, or interference with the due course of the examination by the student, the student’s examination can be interrupted by the examiner, which is equivalent to a failure to obtain a credit. The consequences of such interruption are specified by the academic regulations.
    11. The student is entitled to see her/his own examination paper and to be given justification for the grade received.
    12. The examiner makes the solutions of mathematical problems or test tasks available to students no later than the day on which the results are announced. Grading scale for courses, diploma project and diploma examination: 5.0 (five); 4.5 (four and a half); 4.0 (four); 3.5 (three and a half); 3.0 (three); 2.0 (two). The lowest grade and the only failing one is 2.0 (two). Sport and Industrial Placement are credited with “zal” (credit) record, which has no numerical equivalent. The mean grade for the specific period of study is calculated as a weighted average of the grades obtained in subjects credited in that period. The weight is the number of ECTS points awarded for the subject, related to the total number of points obtained for all the subjects credited in that period. The weighted average calculation does not take into account the subjects credited with “zal” (credit without grade). Calculation of the final study result is based on: a) weighted average of grades for exams and continuous assessment during the whole study period excluding the grade 2.0 (two); b) grade for the diploma project; c) grade for the diploma examination. The final study result is the sum of: 0.6 of the grade under point a) and 0.2 of the grades under points b) and c). The weight of each grade is equal to the number of ECTS points awarded. The diploma provides the final grade for studies, which is determined on the basis of the final study result in accordance with the rule: 4.85 and higher - excellent; 4.55 - 4.84 - very good; 4.2 - 4.54 - more than good; 3.8 - 4.19 - good; 3.4 - 3.79 - satisfactory; up to 3.39 – sufficient.

  12. Graduation requirements

    All students of Lodz University of Technology are required to engage in the study of a foreign language while enrolled in TUL. A student of a first cycle degree programme must demonstrate competency in a foreign language at B2 level according to CEFR by passing an examination. To qualify for licencjat or inżynier degree , a student must successfully complete a three semester course amounting to 180 hours (full-time students) and 120 hours (part-time studies) in business and technical foreign language in the Language Center at TUL. Fulfilling the language requirements within the first compulsory semester, the student can study a particular language at an advanced level or choose from the wide range of ESP courses or enroll in the second foreign language course. To qualify for the master’s degree, a student must successfully complete a one-term course amounting to 45 hours (full-time students) and 30 hours (part-time students) in a foreign language in the Language Center at TUL at B2+ level as specified in CEFR in one of the languages listed above. Students of both the first and the second cycle degree programmes are supposed to: - Undergo a training on occupational safety and health, - Undergo a training on the Law of Higher Education, - Undergo a library training.
